The Day Democracy Died
With the 6-3 ruling by the Supreme Court of the United States on July 1, 2024 giving American presidents virtually complete immunity from criminal prosecution during and after their term in office for even the most serious and heinous crimes imaginable, America has now become what we all feared would it would become should Donald Trump be elected in November: The United States of America is now a dictatorship in all but name.
For anyone who believes I am being hysterical, I suggest they get off their misinformed and arrogant MAGA perch and actually read the SCOTUS opinion and dissenting arguments. Here are some important excerpts of that opinion from Chief Justice Roberts:
“We conclude that under our constitutional structure of separated powers, the nature of Presidential power requires that a former president have some immunity from criminal prosecution for official acts during his tenure in office. At least with respect to the President’s exercise of his core constitutional powers, this immunity must be absolute. As for his remaining official actions, he is also entitled to immunity (italics are mine). At the current stage of proceedings in this case, however, we need not and do not decide whether that immunity must be absolute, or instead whether a presumptive immunity is sufficient.”
“We need not decide whether that immunity must be absolute, or instead whether a presumptive immunity is sufficient.” WTF? Roberts is saying that perhaps giving Trump and all future presidents immunity for all “official acts” may not be enough, so he threw in “presumptive immunity” as well. This means that for Trump and any future president, any “official” or “core” act a president orders while in office, criminal or not (murder, rape, espionage, etc.…) he/she must be presumed to have absolute immunity for that act and cannot be prosecuted either while in office or for the rest of their life.
Insanity. Total insanity.
And with this decision now immediately becoming law, the United States is no better than the worst banana republic, or the Soviet Union under Stalin, or Nazi Germany, or any other dictatorship in history. The unimaginable scenario that I never in my wildest, sweat-soaked nightmares thought could happen in my country has now come to pass. The upcoming sentencing of Donald Trump for his conviction on 34 felony counts in New York is now postponed until…well, no one knows. The federal trial of Trump on numerous election related felonies in Washington, DC will now undoubtedly be dismissed because of this new SCOTUS ruling. The election interference trial in the state of Georgia has already been indefinitely postponed because of the incompetence of the prosecuting district attorney and may never come to trial.
This ruling has given Trump a real boost, not just in his legal affairs, but with his cult-like supporters who see this as vindication for their God-like worship of this scumbag. The result will be an even larger turnout of MAGA lunatics on election day for Trump to insure we do indeed become a dictatorship. If Trump is elected, he will immediately pardon himself, terminate any of his remaining criminal charges and court proceedings, and fire the U.S. Attorney General and Director of the FBI. Then the political persecutions will begin, followed by phony charges, arrests, and televised military tribunals, all without due process. The plans for these very acts have already been published on Trump’s Truth Central. I would not be surprised if several televised executions of former Democratic officials and journalists were next.
It's all over folks…unless the following happens.
Since the SCOTUS just made it legal for the President (any president) to do whatever the BLANK he/she wants, with no possibility of prosecution, I implore Joe Biden to do the following in order to save our democracy:
1) President Biden should immediately schedule a nationwide, primetime special broadcast to address the nation and declare a state of emergency based on the SCOTUS ruling. In his address, Biden should outline the important sections of the ruling and its effect on democracy and how it will threaten the very existence of our nation. He needs to then outline an emergency plan to take extraordinary measures, all based on the SCOTUS ruling, to save our democracy and our form of government.
2) Prior to the national address, President Biden should immediately order the FBI to arrest and imprison Donald Trump, his entire legal team, and all of his campaign managers and workers. Trial arrangements to be decided at a later date.
3) Order the FBI to arrest and imprison the six illegitimate members of SCOTUS and hold them in custody until further notice, replacing them temporarily with justices appointed by Biden.
4) Order the FBI to arrest the officers of all state GOP offices as well as the national GOP headquarters and seize their assets, keeping them under heavy guard until further notice.
5) Announce the termination of the Republican Party of the United States and formally declare it a domestic terrorist organization, subject to all the provisions and penalties of all terrorist organizations so designated by the United States government.
Only with these extreme, unprecedented, and yes, frankly, un-American actions, can there be even a small chance to preserve our democracy until, after the next election, a new constitutional convention can be held and a new, relevant constitution can be written with the 21st century in mind, not the 18th century. This cannot stand. Yes, I am sure if this plan was implemented blood would be spilled. But if this or some other similar plan is not implemented, more blood will be spilled in the wake of GOP mass executions, political concentration camps, and the inevitable revolution that will come someday to claw back our democratic government from these fascists. In the meantime, those arrested and imprisoned, must be tried and held accountable for their treason against the constitution and the people of the United States.
There is simply no other way.
