Christian Nationalists are driving cruelty and anti-intellectualism to new limits

The anti-vaxxers, anti-science and anti-intellectual MAGA cult within Christian Nationalists under HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. have taken over the direction, scope and indeed, the very future of health care in the United States. That future seems to be very dark. Here is a quote from a new report in the Guardian:

“The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) said on Sunday it had reorganized its office for civil rights, bringing conscience and religious freedom to the top. And on Friday, the US Department of Justice (DoJ) issued a new report on religious liberty that includes multiple references to abortion, vaccines and gender-affirming care.

The reorganized HHS office will require federal agencies, state and local governments, healthcare providers, health plans and others to focus on “protecting the free exercise of religion and conscience and the right to be free from coercion in HHS-conducted or funded programs”, according to the public notice.”

Here is an excerpt from an even more dangerous (and nauseating) document called “The Presidential Religious Liberty Commission.”

“When government authorities prevent religious individuals and perspectives from contributing to public life, they diminish the quality of freedom for all citizens. Yet, even today, some government authorities do just that. They wrongly claim that the Establishment Clause or “separation of church and state” requires such erasure. Nothing could be further from the truth—the Constitution neither requires nor permits religious voices to be silenced. In the course of the Commission’s work, we have seen that when religious liberty is misunderstood, constitutional protections become easier to disregard. When religious exercise is treated as an indulgence rather than a fundamental Constitutional right, accommodations become harder to secure. When faith-based institutions are valued only for the services they provide rather than the sincerely held religious convictions that animate them, pressure grows to separate mission from identity. When citizens no longer understand the role of faith in our public life, misunderstandings multiply and freedoms erode. But rather than being discouraged by these erosions, the Commission believes this is an opportune moment to reaffirm the importance of religious liberty in America. We have observed how citizens of every faith tradition continue to serve their communities with courage, generosity, and conviction in many different fields of endeavor. Parents are determined to guide the education of their children, teachers are committed to empowering young people to reach their own conclusions, service members risk their lives for this country, healthcare professionals devote their lives to caring for the most vulnerable, and ordinary citizens seek nothing more than to the freedom to live according to their consciences.”

The most important point to be taken from this is that the far-right, extremist Christian Nationalist perversion of Christianity cherry picked solely from the Old Testament is now in control of the United States government. They control the Congress, the Supreme Court and the White House, all three branches of our federal system of government. We have recently witness an outbreak of flu at Lackland Air Force Base among initial trainees. Why? Because Pete Hegseth made flu vaccinations voluntary, overriding decades of mandatory, common sense, science based regulations. At least one service member died and dozens were hospitalized. That vaccine mandate has now been reimplemented.

This is just the start. With raving lunatics in charge of the White House, the Pentagon and Health and Human Services, the number of Americans of all ages that will needlessly die and be made critically ill in the future due to nothing more then a failure to be vaccinated and take science based medications will be astronomical. And MAGA and all who support and vote for MAGA officials and against science will share equally the blood on their hands as a result.
