Most Americans seem to be oblivious to the existential danger to our democracy posed by Donald Trump
I don’t know why most Americans (and as well as the vast majority of the American media) refuse to accept Donald Trump’s threats that upon his reelection, he will rapidly dismantle our democratic institutions and establish a dictatorship. Why are they refusing to accept this reality? I don’t get it, I really don’t. During his first presidency, Trump did (or tried to do) everything he said. In the past he wasn’t smart enough to pull off most of his most extreme and destructive plans and was held in check by some sane advisors. But in a second term as president, he would have the knowledge of how the federal government works and be surrounded by loyal sycophants with no ethics or morals, eager to do his dictatorial bidding. Trump is now telling us exactly what he will do if he is reelected. We are fools if we do not listen and take him at his word. I fear we are fools. By we, I mean the vast majority of the American public and the leaders of our government institutions. I am many things, but I am no fool when it comes to Donald Trump. I do take him at his word, and I know that if he takes the oath as president on 20 January 2025, the party is over. The democratic republic formerly known as the United States of America will be no more.
