The shattered remnants of our democracy are operating alongside a growing dictatorship, just like in Hitler's Germany and Stalin's Soviet Union

Hitler and Stalin never completely dismantled the few remaining institutions of a functioning democracy while rapidly constructing an authoritarian state to run parallel so that when the takeover was complete, businesses and the average citizen were just fine with the new reality as long as it did not negatively affect them personally.
