In an auditorium inside the sprawling U.S. Marine Corp Base at Quantico, Virginia, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and President Donald Trump gave presentations to around 800 of the top military leaders in the nation, presentations that can only be described as unhinged at best, and totally fascist at worst. Of the many embarrassing statements made by both men, perhaps the most egregious and dangerous was the threat by Trump to deploy the active duty U.S. military to American cities to combat the “enemy within”, Trump’s euphemism for anyone who protests his actions or decisions, a right protected by the U.S. Constitution under Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Assembly. Deployment of the American military solely to combat Americans whose only “crime” is speaking out against fascism will surely be the final death knell of American democracy.
