Ukrainian flags displayed at the EU Commission headquarters in Brussels

“The European Commission raised the Ukrainian flag at its headquarters in Brussels on Friday, Aug. 21, ahead of Ukraine’s Independence Day on Monday, Aug. 24.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen published a video of the flag-raising ceremony on X.
“As we prepare to celebrate Ukraine’s Independence Day, we raise the Ukrainian flag in Brussels. So it can fly proudly at the heart of our Union, where it belongs,” von der Leyen stated. “Ukraine will reclaim its security. Its freedom. And it will take its rightful place in our Union.”
International gestures of support are planned across Europe to mark the occasion.
In Paris, the Eiffel Tower will be illuminated in the blue and yellow colors of the Ukrainian flag at 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 24, according to Le Parisien.”
I have expressed my admiration for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people many times over the years both here, on YouTube podcasts and in several interviews on international media platforms. But with Ukrainian civilian population centers being viciously attacked every day by Russian missiles and drones, my heart goes out to those who still perservere this continuing nightmare. Indeed, Ukraine is now dishing out some payback to the oblivious and cold-hearted Russian people. My hope is that the Russian people begin to suffer as much (or more) than the Ukrainian people have since 2014. They have more than earned a lifetime of suffering for their callous disregard of their country’s atrocities committed in their name in Ukraine, and in many cases, for their gleeful cheerleading for those atrocities committed by the Russian armed forces.
