Russia Is Winning The Propaganda War
Another Western democracy elects a far-right friend of Putin and enemy of Ukraine
The oft used cliché, “another one bites the dust”, is unfortunately a very appropriate phrase to describe the results of the recent election in The Netherlands. The PVV Freedom Party of far right-wing populist (and Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page look-alike) Geert Wilders won the most votes in the recent election and is now in the best position to select the new Dutch Prime Minister. Wilders is known for his opposition to almost all immigration to The Netherlands, Islamophobia, termination of military aid to Ukraine, severing ties with the EU and NATO, ending Russian sanctions, and his admiration for Vladimir Putin. This new development comes on the heels of the recent election victory by the new far right-wing Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, as well as the never ending nightmare of Hungary’s Viktor Orban. Both of those men also support Putin, oppose Russian sanctions, do not support Ukraine in its war against Russia, and have many serious differences with the EU and NATO. In other words, they are the antithesis of traditional, trustworthy, liberal Western democracies and are rapidly turning to the east, Russia and authoritarianism.
