Good Germans: The Republican Party and the Insurrection of January 6, 2021
MAGA and Nazi Germany
It seems that history does indeed repeat itself. A case in point is Nazi Germany and the millions of Germans who either passionately supported Der Führer or those who remained intentionally oblivious to his increasingly tyrannical, cruel and ultimately genocidal actions. When interview after the war, many of these Germans stated that to publicly oppose Hitler or the Nazi Party was anathema to all “good Germans.” Even when confronted with the horrors of the concentration camps operating sometimes within view of German villages, many of those interviewed stated that to do what the state asked of them, especially during wartime, was expected of all Germans, even if they might suspect that they were supporting a criminal regime. After all, many were recorded as saying of their seemingly inexplicable acceptence of such inhumane and barbaric actions, they were just behaving like “Good Germans.”
